- ➤ A property (312 N. 57th Ave.) in Myrtle Grove has troubled neighbors for nearly two years with over 60 police calls for trash, drug parties and other nuisances due to poor landlord oversight. Plains Commerce Bank foreclosed the home and bought it for $130,000, and officials say it is now compliant. Pensacola News Journal

- ➤ Sal’s Pizza Cafe opened in Gulf Breeze, replacing Seneca’s Deli at 3707 Gulf Breeze Parkway, and now offers New York-style pizza, salads & sandwiches in a casual dining space. The restaurant operates from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and accepts dine-in, online, and call-in orders. Pensacola News Journal

- ➤ Pensacola’s Mardi Gras season features events from Second Line Tuesdays on Palafox to a Kids & Kritters Parade at Pensacola Beach on Jan. 24 and a Grand Parade downtown on Feb. 14. - ➤ Pensacola’s Mardi Gras season began Jan. 3 and will continue through Feb. 17, with Fat Tuesday festivities set to culminate in the Priscus Celebration at Seville Quarter. - ➤ Florida drivers now pay the lowest gas prices in nearly four years as the state average dropped 17 cents to $2.69 per gallon on Sunday; Pensacola gas stations averaged $2.55 per gallon (compared to higher prices in Palm Beach County). WEAR-TV

- ➤ Gov. DeSantis appointed Destin businessman Kevin Mason (CEO of Acentria Insurance) and reappointed attorney Paul Bailey to the University of West Florida Board of Trustees on Jan. 12; their appointments, pending Senate confirmation, will support students, campus, and regional growth. - ➤ The James B. Washington Education and Sports (JBWES) program has been providing afterschool tutoring and sports activities to help vulnerable youth stay on track to graduate. The program supports improved reading, math, and teamwork skills in Pensacola. Pensacola News Journal

- ➤ ECUA has issued a boil water notice for Pensacola neighborhoods after a four-inch water main broke; affected areas include sections of Ferguson Dr, Ferguson Ct, Ladybird Ln, and Hancock Ln, and residents are urged to boil water or add 8 drops of bleach per gallon until bacteriological tests are completed within 48 hours. - ➤ Escambia County is planning to redevelop the former wood treating site on N. Palafox into the Midtown Commerce Center (boosting jobs), which may include an animal shelter and fire training center while cost-estimating soil and groundwater testing on adjacent parcels at the Jan. 22 board meeting.
