- ➤ Escambia County Animal Welfare will extend hours to open on Sundays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. starting this weekend & adoptions for cats and dogs will have no fee while county residents pay a $15 licensing fee at the West Fairfield Drive location. WEAR-TV

- ➤ Trinity Barnett—an art teacher at Blue Angels Elementary—has been named Escambia County Teacher of the Year. She will now compete for the state award while county celebrations continue next week. WEAR-TV
- ➤ Booker T. Washington High principal Richard Shackle received the Florida TaxWatch Principal Leadership Award on Friday, recognizing his leadership at a high risk K12 public school and letting him nominate a student for a two-year college scholarship. He is one of five state winners and the only one from Northwest Florida. WEAR-TV

- ➤ Extreme cold affects Pensacola as temperatures near 29 degrees are expected to persist through Sunday, and residents are advised to let faucets drip (especially those on exterior walls or in unheated areas) to prevent frozen pipes. Pensacola News Journal
