Lakeview Ave for 60 days, with builder George Sitton relisting the historic home for preservation, while the city lifts its 38-year ban on large events at Plaza Ferdinand, reopening the downtown park for festivals and concerts. - ➤ Escambia Westgate Center ended carnival season 2026 with its 33rd Mardi Gras parade on Feb. 20, where 32+ units tossed beads, stuffed animals and hula hoops to 135 students, including a shoebox float contest judged by parade krewes and performances by local school groups. Pensacola News Journal

- ➤ Blue Angels art teacher Trinity Barnett was named 2027 Escambia County Public Schools Teacher of the Year on Feb. 17 and she will represent the school district in the state Teacher of the Year selection, with the final award announced in July (she has taught for 10 years). - ➤ The Northwest Florida Water Management District has issued a water shortage warning for Escambia and Santa Rosa counties as severe drought conditions prompt urgent conservation measures. Residents are advised to limit water use and adjust irrigation to early morning and evening — the alert will remain until the district cancels it. Pensacola News Journal
