  • Volunteers at Open Books Bookstore in Pensacola packaged and mailed books that prisoners requested as part of the Prison Book Project on November 21st, 2024—helping inmates get reading material.  Pensacola News Journal
  • On March 6th, 22-year-old Luca Kukuk died when his car was hit by an alleged drunk driver on Woodbine Road in Pace. Pensacola’s Planning Board approved the design for a Reverb by Hard Rock Hotel project at Community Maritime Park, a Colorado State University forecast predicts a near-normal 2025 hurricane season with some tornado risk, Escambia commissioners backed UWF amid board appointment concerns, and local nightlife icon New York Nick will retire in April after 50 years in the industry — more details are expected soon.  Pensacola News Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Pensacola residents can enjoy a busy week of events as an Irish pub crawl on Pensacola Beach begins at 9 a.m. (March 17) and a Celtic music show takes place at Saenger Theatre at 7 p.m., while additional concerts, art shows and food and wine festivals continue. Local venues including O’Riley’s, The Handlebar and Blue Wahoos Stadium host a mix of live music and themed parties that run until (March 23).  Pensacola News Journal

  • A lawsuit was filed over 'horrible' conditions in Pensacola apartments and Milton’s state funding requests were axed by local officials; Open Books is set to help inmates change lives with new educational programs.  Pensacola News Journal

  • Paddy O’Leary’s Irish Pub has marked 25 years of real Irish tradition in Pensacola Beach as it holds a special St. Patrick’s Day event today that starts with a 9 a.m. mass and live music later—cover charges apply after mass.  Pensacola News Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Developers Brad and Brooke Agers filed a proposal on March 5 to build an indoor sportsplex on a 2.4-acre site at 6570 Mobile Highway next to the Pensacola fairgrounds. The project is set to include two 15,000-square-foot metal buildings with dedicated areas for baseball, softball, and basketball—each with office space, ADA-compliant restrooms, and a planned 40-space parking lot.  Pensacola News Journal
  • Escambia High School softball coach Mike Davis won his 500th career game on Friday when the Gators defeated Booker T. Washington with a score of 13 to 3 in a five-inning mercy-rule win— the team celebrated Davis with silly string and confetti while marking his 33rd season and deep ties as a 1987 graduate.  Pensacola News Journal
