- ➤ Jeremiah’s Italian Ice opened its first Pensacola store on March 17 at 1491 W. Nine Mile Road Suite 1 and sells over 40 flavors of Italian ice, soft ice cream and its signature Jelati with a drive-thru. Owner Tom Kennedy said he plans to share the franchise’s community spirit as a grand opening celebration will take place on April 12—inviting locals to enjoy a new treat. Pensacola News Journal
- ➤ Publix, one of Florida's largest grocery chains with over 870 stores, will be closed on Easter Sunday—April 20 as part of its three-holiday policy; the stores usually open at 7 a.m. and close at 10 p.m., so shoppers must plan for other options. - ➤ A Pensacola man was arrested on March 11 after a landscaper reported that two children fled a home where stepfather Adam Phillips allegedly beat, threw and strangled them—Phillips now faces two first-degree felony counts of aggravated child abuse and is set for arraignment on April 4. - ➤ Wildlife rescuers in the Panhandle work every day to help injured, orphaned, or sick animals get a second chance at life. Wildlife Harbour Rescue—founded by Cindy Lavine—and Panhandle Wildlife Rescue—led by Shelby Robinson and Jim Johnson—work without government funding and depend on donations and volunteers to care for animals across 14 counties. - ➤ On March 14, the Escambia County Board of County Commissioners opposed Gov. DeSantis’ nomination of Scott Yenor to the UWF Board of Trustees, warning that his Idaho residency and controversial remarks could drop enrollment by 25% and cut key programs affecting UWF’s $1.5 billion economic impact.
