ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 36-year-old Pensacola man was life-flighted after his sedan hit a flatbed truck when a tire blew out on Interstate 10 near Avalon Blvd on Thursday evening—roads closed in Santa Rosa County as officials work to determine when reopening will occur.  WEAR-TV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • GE Vernova held a ribbon cutting for a new customer experience center in Pensacola that shows its $70 million investment since 2023 and supports wind projects in Texas and the SunZia project. The center has created 700 jobs — 20% held by veterans — and may grow to support up to 1,000 employees as it boosts wind turbine production.  FOX 10

CRIME NEWS

  • A 45-year-old Pensacola man—Michael Desmond Locke—faces 32 felony charges for possessing and transmitting child sexual abuse material that includes images of children as young as 3 after an investigation traced online uploads from January 27; he is held without bond and awaits an April 17 court appearance.  FOX 10

CULTURE NEWS

  • Pensacola native Titus Underwood will perform as guest oboist with the Pensacola Symphony Orchestra Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. at the Saenger Theatre. He is the youngest of six children and grew up in a musical family with parents who served as local church ministers.  WEAR-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Florida legislators are considering bills to criminalize the creation of explicit AI images of people without permission following a Pensacola case where a high school student altered photos to appear nude. The Senate Criminal Justice Committee passed SB 1180 on Tuesday and a companion bill is moving through the House, with the laws set to take effect on Oct. 1 if passed — the measure aims to close loopholes and hold creators accountable.  Pensacola News Journal
  • The next Mayor’s Neighborhood Cleanup—set for Saturday, March 29 in the area north of East Hill and surrounding neighborhoods—asks residents to place eligible items at the curb by 7 a.m. Accepted items include appliances, electronics, furniture and debris, while building materials, chemicals and yard trash will not be collected.  FOX 10
  • The Florida Senate Appropriations Committee on Higher Education voted to reject Adam Kissel’s appointment to the University of West Florida Board of Trustees—citing his past writings that called for privatizing public universities and questioned the GI Bill, which raised concerns among local residents. Kissel, a visiting fellow at the Heritage Foundation, will face review by the Ethics and Elections committee in two weeks.  Rick's Blog
