  • Bright Bridge Ministries is set to add 40 beds to its shelter that currently houses 50 men and will host the 'Bridge to Tomorrow' kickoff event on April 1st at 12:30 p.m.—Renovations are expected to cost between $1.25 million and $1.5 million to expand essential services for homeless men battling addiction.  Pensacola News Journal
  • Bright Bridge Ministries held a facility walk-through on March 24th as it planned renovations to add over 40 beds at its His Place Shelter — the move is intended to expand housing for more residents.  Pensacola News Journal

  • A 59-year-old Pensacola man won $2 million on a $10 Florida Lottery scratch-off ticket bought at Cumberland Farms on N Warrington Road. He chose a one-time lump sum (worth $1,276,000) and the retailer earned a bonus commission (of $4,000) for selling the winning ticket.  WEAR-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Pensacola Mayor D.C. Reeves and the City Council plan to send a letter to the Florida Senate to oppose Gov. DeSantis’ picks for the UWF board— including controversial professor Scott Yenor. They said the move follows the Senate Appropriations Committee’s rejection of a nominee and is meant to keep local control over the university.  Pensacola News Journal
  • Pensacola officials face a last-minute challenge with the Gen. 'Chappie' James monument project as a June agreement expires and legal threats over $750,000 in tourism tax dollars persist—Escambia County voted to approve $875,000 amid objections from the Tourist Development Council. Mayor Reeves has proposed moving the monument from Wayside Park to Veterans Memorial Park to avoid a legal fight—however, the memorial foundation rejected that change.  Pensacola News Journal

  • The Pensacola Blue Wahoos held a Food Media Day last Friday at their stadium to showcase new concession items for the upcoming season starting on April 4.   • Pace baseball coach Jason McBride reached his 200th win during the Patriots’ spring break tournament after a key win over Seminole—this milestone boosted the team to a 13-2 record as they prepare for district tournaments beginning April 14.   • Zamari Purifoy of Pensacola Catholic won the PNJ Athlete of the Week award for March 10-15 after taking first in the Freshman 400-meter dash at the Nike Indoor Nationals in Manhattan with a time of 49.79 seconds — he earned 64.01% of the vote for the honor.  Pensacola News Journal
