- ➤ Pensacola voters can now cast their final vote in the PNJ Burger Bracket contest as Pensacola Beach favorite The Reef faces smash burger truck Smash 'N' Dash until 2 p.m. on Saturday, and the winner will be announced on April 14 at 10 a.m. on PNJ.com. Pensacola News Journal

- ➤ A collapse on County Road 97A north of Arthur Brown Road caused the southbound lane to cave in while water on OC Phillips Road at Brushy Creek, Pine Forest Road north of Arthur Brown Road and Arthur Brown Road at Bushy Creek led to closures—FHP reported. WEAR-TV

- ➤ Pensacola State College broke ground on a new 34,000-square-foot Aviation Airframe and Powerplant Mechanics Program facility at Pensacola International Airport using $16 million in funding from several sources. The program’s first cohort began their 18-month FAA-aligned training in January and will study at ST Engineering’s hangar until the facility is complete in about 18 months—an effort to address the local shortage of aircraft mechanics. - ➤ The University of West Florida will host its seventh annual Founders Week from April 12–17 with the Day of Play on April 12 at the UWF East Sports Complex where community members will enjoy games and free treats—service projects in Pensacola on April 15, in Fort Walton Beach on April 16 and an online Day of Giving on April 17 will follow. - ➤ Escambia County commissioners approved a record $102M sheriff’s office budget over the next three years to boost manpower, equipment and fair pay. The sheriff said eight new deputies will join by October—more positions are expected in the next two years to respond to rising call numbers. WEAR-TV

- ➤ Faith Morgan Investment Group is planning a new development at 3811 W. Nine Mile Road that will feature PJ’s Coffee Shop, a UPOP convenience store with a Shell gas station, Savi Provisions market, and a 10,613-square-foot Montessori Kids Universe Early Childhood Educational Center to fill a local need for family-friendly services. The $12 million leaseback deal will add walkable amenities to the neighborhood—giving Inspire Apartments residents a discount on daycare services. Pensacola News Journal
