BUSINESS NEWS

  • Happy Joe's Pizza and Ice Cream will open in Navarre on Monday, April 28 at 2502 State Road 87 South. Restaurant owners said the opening will feature a grand party with bounce houses, face painting and a petting zoo — and the new restaurant will offer its famed taco pizza, an all-you-can-eat lunch buffet, an arcade, two bars, a drive-thru and an outdoor patio with slide-up garage doors.  Pensacola News Journal
  • Big Kahuna’s Destin reopens today—kicking off its summer season with discounted season passes and over 40 water attractions available until Sept. 21. The water park, about an hour and 15 minutes from Pensacola, welcomes families looking for fun and savings.  Pensacola News Journal

CRIME NEWS

  • On Thursday, Carl Sykes, a 27-year-old Pensacola man, was arrested on grand theft charges for stealing 171 iPhones while working as a UPS delivery driver (he admitted to selling the phones) and remains in jail on a $25,000 bond.  WEAR-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Pensacola’s red light cameras caught an average of 92 drivers running red lights each day after a 30-day grace period began on Jan 1 and issued 2,589 tickets in February and 2,824 in March—officials said these violations risk lives. The city will add two cameras at a fifth intersection this year—efforts that aim to curb the rising violations.  Pensacola News Journal

  • Jasmine King resigned as Gulf Breeze girls volleyball coach after leading the team to a state championship appearance with a 30-2 record in 2024 to accept a volunteer assistant coaching job at the University of West Florida+ this allowed her to remain local for her family. Longtime assistant coach Steven Clay+ has been named the new head coach to continue the program's strong run.  Pensacola News Journal
  • Pensacola Catholic golfer Hudson Mitchell signed with the U.S. Naval Academy to play college golf, continuing a family legacy and adding to his PNJ Golfer of the Year win from last year. He joined after a lengthy recruiting process and will be part of the Naval Academy's class of 2029.  Pensacola News Journal
