  • Over 10,000 people received supplies during the fourth Annual Fred Levin Way Fest in downtown Pensacola on Sunday—organizers hosted the event to support local residents.  Pensacola News Journal
  • District 5 resident Luverne Bonner moved into a new home on April 4 after 25 years in a crumbling house, thanks to Escambia County's Housing Demo and Replacement Program. The program, funded by Florida’s State Housing Initiatives Partnership, helps eligible residents replace unsafe homes with safer ones.  Rick's Blog

  • Chipotle Mexican Grill filed a proposal on April 11 for a new restaurant in the Ransley Station development that will include a drive-thru lane and 36 parking spaces on a site covering 1.12 acres on Boesch Street if approved — the application comes just days after a new Chipotle was approved in Bellview.  Pensacola News Journal

  • Recently, ReadyKids! hosted a Read Across Pensacola Day Extravaganza at Wedgewood Community Center—bringing together over 200 families, 25 community agencies and nine guest readers—and engaged children in interactive activities such as crafting story wands and selecting books to take home.  Pensacola News Journal

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Local researchers urge Pensacola boaters to report manatee sightings as experts note that these animals, which need fresh water, have been seen in both Perdido Bay and Pensacola Bay—with 150 sightings in Perdido and 50 in Pensacola recorded last year—to help track their movement north toward the Blackwater River and beyond.  Pensacola News Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Florida lawmakers are reviewing two bills that would require social media companies to provide decryption keys for messages and stop disappearing posts on minor accounts to help law enforcement build stronger cases against sexual predators. The Senate bill has passed its committee and will move to the floor while the House version awaits review—critics say the change could increase hacking risks.  WEAR-TV
  • Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier issued a subpoena to Roblox on Wednesday, asking for records that show how the gaming platform protects children from harmful content and potential predators. The request covers details on marketing practices, chat moderation, age verification, and handling abuse reports—aiming to address safety concerns raised by reports of harmful content and predatory interactions.  Pensacola News Journal

  • The Flora-Bama will host the Interstate Mullet Toss and Greatest Beach Party — scheduled from 10 a.m. April 25 through April 27 at 17401 Perdido Key Drive. Participants will toss a dead mullet from a 10-foot circle across the state line for charity while fees of $20 for tossers include a T-shirt and contests for kids, adults, and celebrities are set to take place.  Pensacola News Journal
