Gulf Coast Korean War and Vietnam veterans landed at the Pensacola International Airport last Friday after visiting Washington, D.C. as part of the four-year Wiregrass Honor Flight and were greeted warmly by local groups — including ROTC cadets, Patriot Riders and a children's chorus.
🎭 Culture
The Pensacola Crawfish Festival kicks off downtown today—featuring live music, food vendors and demonstrations on how to eat crawfish.
The 2026 Interstate Mullet Toss began Friday at Flora-Bama in Perdido Key and runs through Sunday; children toss from 10 a.m. to noon while adults toss from noon to 4 p.m. (a $20 fee includes a T-shirt and benefits local charities).
The National Naval Aviation Museum will host a birthday celebration for WWII veteran Lt. Cmdr.
Cash Barber on Tuesday, May 5 at 10 a.m. on the Cabot Flight Deck (his 102nd birthday is May 6).
Fiesta’s annual Crawfish Festival fills Seville Square from April 24 to 26 with boiled crawfish plates, live bands, and arts vendors bringing a taste of Louisiana.
Admission is $5 for adults and parking is available along Government Street and Zaragoza Street (pets are not allowed by city code).

Reyes Holdings agreed to buy assets of Republic National Distributing Co., which could lead to 1,046 Florida job losses across four cities starting June 21.
The Pensacola facility may see up to 121 jobs impacted, although Reyes plans to extend some employment offers.
🎓 Education
At UWF yesterday, Jaromy Kuhl broke ground on The Synapse, a 55,000 sqft building that will host the Center for Computational Intelligence & the Center for Cybersecurity and AI as part of a regional investment in workforce development.
UWF students taking 12 credits will pay an extra $24 per semester starting this fall as the university moves to Division I athletics + the fee will help fund athletic scholarships and expanded campus activities while canceling a $25 parking permit charge.

In today's regional playoffs, Pace and Escambia won baseball quarterfinals, Gulf Breeze boys lacrosse edged Nease in overtime, and Jay High School clinched its first regional weightlifting titles (Tocoi Creek and Lincoln will face next-round opponents).
