ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A Spirit Airlines flight from Houston to Orlando declared an emergency midflight on Saturday—landing safely at Pensacola International Airport with 182 passengers—and no injuries were reported. WEAR-TV
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Bounce Beach Pensacola will open on May 30 at 400 Quietwater Beach Road to replace Felix's Restaurant and Oyster Bar and will use a beach-front sports bar style with three areas—a beach bar, an open-air main floor with live country music and big screens, and a sunset rooftop lounge for cocktails and small bites. The new restaurant will serve Gulf Coast flavors with dishes like raw and grilled oysters, grilled gator ribs, and Cajun pizza with crawfish tails. Pensacola News Journal

- ➤ Pensacola High School student Alexa Tonatzin Murillo Rangel was named Escambia and Santa Rosa County Student of the Week for May 5-9 after receiving 62.8% of the vote, beating runner-up Blossom Cauthen who earned 36.99% & voting for next week will begin on Tuesday, May 13. - ➤ ECUA will flush fluoride out of drinking water as part of its updated treatment process. Officials said South Navy Blvd. will get a makeover — a new restaurant is set to open soon. Pensacola News Journal
- ➤ Escambia County is asking local residents to give feedback on two proposals to improve a one-mile stretch of South Navy Boulevard near NAS Pensacola—a corridor that is vital for daily commuters and community businesses. The public workshop will be held May 14 from 5-7 p.m. at Lexington Terrace Community Center—where county officials will use the input to shape a final improvement plan. Pensacola News Journal
- ➤ ECUA will stop adding fluoride to public water on July 1 when the new law takes effect and will redirect about $340,000 a year toward carbon filters for cleaning local wells. Board member Vicki Campbell said the utility ordered less fluoride in advance and will use the remaining five weeks' supply — a change coming after nearly 30 years of fluoridation.
