- ➤ The University of West Florida is overseeing the restoration of five century old markers at Magnolia Cemetery with funding from the Florida Division of Historical Resources. Restoration crews completed final stucco repairs today and will soon rebuild the decorative cornice to preserve local history. WUWF
- ➤ Pensacola native Keyla Richardson finished third on American Idol Season 24 on May 12 and wowed viewers with three show-stopping performances—including a duet with Jason Mraz. Fans can now relive her powerful renditions of songs by Alicia Keys and Whitney Houston. Pensacola News Journal

- ➤ The 2026 hurricane season begins June 1 with daily tropical outlooks starting May 15, and residents in Pensacola are encouraged to review their evacuation zones ahead of storms. - ➤ Last month, Escambia County used over 380 tons of concrete from the old Pensacola Bay Fishing Bridge (damaged during Hurricane Sally) to form a new artificial reef 5 nautical miles southeast of Pensacola Pass. The reef provides habitat for snapper, grouper and triggerfish. Local Pulse

- ➤ Escambia County is proposing updated animal laws that include stricter leash rules, faster dangerous dog decisions with a $100,000 insurance requirement, a ban on roadside animal sales, and penalties for repeat-offenders. A public hearing is set for May 21. WEAR-TV
- ➤ Pensacola PD held a ceremony Tuesday at Mission Anglican Church to honor fallen officers during National Police Week & family members placed a rose near a wreath as names were read. Chief Eric Winstrom recalled their service and affirmed the legacy of those who continue to serve. FOX 10
- ➤ Pensacola Mayor D.C. Reeves announced that Palafox Street in downtown is set to reopen May 24 after a $10.7 million modernization that includes expanded sidewalks and improved stormwater systems (contractors earn a 10% bonus if they finish on time) despite recent heavy rain. - ➤ Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Florida’s new 140-day Gulf red snapper season—the longest ever—to support local fishing using a new Exempted Fishing Permit. An Atlantic red snapper season of 39 days will begin on May 22 to further boost the industry. FOX 10
