- ➤ Florida is preparing for hurricane season as a new federal order shifts disaster response duties from FEMA to state and local authorities—officials say the change may increase strain on recovery efforts in smaller counties. - ➤ At a May 15 meeting, Escambia County Board Chair Mike Kohler argued that the Escambia Children’s Trust should be put back on the ballot in 2026—he questioned if voters truly wanted an organization that sought to exempt nearly $500,000 in tax revenues for a youth employment program.
