- ➤ On May 15, the Escambia County Board approved a new firefighter contract that gives a $3 raise and adds $1.7 million to the budget while also voting on a $34 million plan to build, replace, and upgrade five fire stations. The plan covers adding two new stations, replacing two stations, and upgrading one for 24/7 staffing—using funds from the local sales tax fund—and details on tax increases are still pending.
