- ➤ Pensacola Beach lifeguards expanded summer patrols to Perdido Key and nearby beaches, providing three lifeguards & a truck at multiple stations daily until Aug. 11 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The increased coverage aims to boost safety against rip currents. WEAR-TV
- ➤ Bishop John Ricard, the longest-serving leader of the Pensacola-Tallahassee Catholic Diocese, died on May 20 at age 86 after decades of humanitarian service that brought him to work with local groups and even rock stars. He will be buried at historic St. Michael's Cemetery in downtown Pensacola. Pensacola News Journal
- ➤ Costco will open its first local store at 8 a.m. on June 25 at 225 E. Nine Mile Road, while downtown’s new Palafox Street opened to pedestrians on Memorial Day weekend and will allow vehicles beginning May 31 - additional local news includes planned school closures and a restaurant change.
