  • The Crab Cake Cook-Off 2026 returns to Seville Quarter on Wednesday, July 22, with local chefs, community leaders, and seafood enthusiasts gathering for unlimited tastings and live music in support of The Arc Gateway programs (VIP admission starts at 5 p.m. and general begins at 6 p.m.).  Local Pulse

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Pensacola Fire Department crews battled a fire at EMR Southern Recycling on Myrick Street Tuesday morning, and officials reported it was 70 percent contained by 7:45 a.m.; Escambia County Emergency Management released a map of the smoke plume area and urged residents with respiratory issues to take precautions.  FOX 10

BUSINESS NEWS

  • A washout on Memorial Day slowed the kickoff to 100 days of summer on Pensacola Beach. Restaurants gained a captive crowd while charter boats faced cancellations, and local businesses hope the impact does not extend into the busy Fourth of July season (which many expect to revive activity).  WEAR-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Downtown Pensacola will face road closures on May 29 ahead of the annual Grand Fiesta Parade that starts at 7 p.m. The parade will follow a modified route during New Palafox construction, affecting multiple streets and parking spaces so local drivers should plan alternate routes.  Pensacola News Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • 206 Pensacola High School seniors walked across the stage at the Pensacola Bay Center on Tuesday, May 26, marking their graduation as the class of 2026.  Pensacola News Journal
  • Pensacola-area schools ended their sessions on May 22, and most Florida districts will start the 2026-2027 school year on Aug. 10 (the earliest legal start date) with a few beginning later. This schedule follows statewide guidelines for school calendars.  Pensacola News Journal
  • The Pensacola-based Gulf Winds Foundation awarded up to $45,000 in scholarships today to five credit union student members selected from 62 applications. Four recipients are receiving renewable awards (each up to $10,000) while one is receiving a renewable award of up to $5,000.  Rick's Blog

  • The official start of the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season is less than a week away, and forecasters warn that a tropical storm or hurricane could still impact Pensacola despite below-normal predictions.
