Good morning, Pensacola. Here's your local news at a glance for Sunday, the 8th of June.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Pensacola First Methodist Church on Wright Street is hosting a regional conference of church leaders today — the church prepared its decorated offices, gymnasium and exhibit space on June 6 as part of its first leadership conference since the early 1900s. The event is set to bring together religious leaders from the region for the conference.  Pensacola News Journal

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On Tuesday night, a disabled veteran in Colonial Pine Estates said a mother bear and her four cubs broke through his back screen door to get his trash—prompting him to seek bear relocation as sightings rise in Navarre.  WEAR-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Residents criticized Commissioner Ashlee Hofberger's renderings for a new Pensacola Beach gateway that offer options such as the Innisfree logo, a beach ball, or a dolphin, calling them amateur hour and cheeseball. They questioned why the designs were not shown at the May 28 town hall and noted that the public vote, which will end June 11, gives only five days for feedback—online comments call for professional designers—demonstrating widespread disapproval.  Rick's Blog
