  • Life’s A Dance 2025 is a benefit dance showcase honoring our city's founding settler Tristan de Luna that features judge Tristan MacManus, Victor Luna, and others to support a program funding two full years of meals for local students. ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Escambia County Fire Rescue responded to a mobile home fire on the 700 block of N. Navy Blvd at 3:22 p.m. Tuesday — an electrical issue caused heavy smoke and flames that damaged the kitchen and bedroom, and no injuries were reported while the home will require extensive repairs before it can be reoccupied.  WEAR-TV

CRIME NEWS

  • Tiron Alexander, a 35-year-old Florida man, was convicted for wire fraud after he posed as a flight attendant to book over 120 free flights from 2018 to 2024 — he will be sentenced on Aug 25.  WEAR-TV
  • A 34-year-old man—Antonio Demetrius Ewing—was arrested in Tallahassee after a fatal shooting occurred at Pensacola Village Apartments on May 30 around 6:15 p.m., and he now faces charges of 2nd-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.  WEAR-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of West Florida Board of Trustees is set to approve a one-year contract today for interim president Manny Diaz—who will earn a base salary of $643,000, about $107,000 more than former president Martha Saunders and nearly $7,000 less than FAMU President Marva Johnson. The contract requires the UWF Foundation to raise nearly half a million dollars in private funds to cover salary amounts above the state cap.  Rick's Blog
