- ➤ Gulf Coast Kid’s House received a $50,000 grant from the Escambia Children’s Trust to support child abuse prevention programs — family advocacy services and community education efforts in Escambia County. Pensacola News Journal
- ➤ Feeding the Gulf Coast sponsored a Summer Feeding Program at the West Florida Public Library main branch on Spring Street in downtown Pensacola on June 10, where library staff handed out free lunches to children under 18 from noon—1 p.m. The program, offered at all WFPL sites Monday through Friday, provided free summer meals to families in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties. - ➤ The Jewelers Trade Shop is building a new 11,500-square-foot store at 150 West Garden St that will give more space for customers, staff, and artisans. Owner Corbett Davis III said the new store will open in the third quarter and will transform a parking lot at West Garden and North Spring St into a commercial hub — keeping 24 parking spots. - ➤ Elizabeth Collins, a 79-year-old with dementia, has been held in Santa Rosa County Jail since her arrest for domestic violence after allegedly attacking her husband with a hammer, and local advocates + an elder law attorney are working to secure Medicaid funding to move her safely into a care facility despite her history of violence complicating placement. - ➤ Mayor Reeves explained that Main Street will close from July 7 to Sept. 5 for flood mitigation to protect nearly 1,800 homes, and he said the city is negotiating creative financing with Baptist Health. He also noted changes to the MLK Day parade timing for heat safety, a review of the VEO scooter program, yard waste collection improvements, and a more defensive budget approach as economic indicators slow — steps that aim to balance service upgrades with responsible spending. - ➤ Pensacola is reviewing its Veo e-scooter program—set to expire this fall—as Mayor D.C.
