CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Four individuals—including a 15-year-old—are charged with robbery, carjacking, and kidnapping at Hotel Del Sol on Pensacola Boulevard late Monday after a man, contacted through Facebook, was held at BB gunpoint, forced to withdraw money, and taken in his car; three of the suspects are held in Escambia County Jail without bond as investigators review security footage. - ➤ Hurricane Erick hit Mexico on June 19 as a Category 3 storm with winds of 125 mph before weakening into a low-pressure system and causing flooding and power outages, the National Hurricane Center said. The Center is now tracking four tropical waves and dangerous heat with a heat index of 110 is expected in Florida while Saharan dust may reach the area on June 27—posing a risk to local residents. - ➤ Commissioner Hofberger opened today’s Board of County Commissioners meeting by reading her remarks—highlighting local features and giving an update on the Gateway project. She explained that outdated tolling equipment from a wrong-way crash, along with planned investments of $1.2 million for an upgrade, $1.5 million for fiber installation, and $2 million for an emergency lane—totaling $4.7 million, will improve safety in Escambia County. - ➤ Escambia County Commissioner Ashlee Hofberger said state funds were cut on June 13, reducing the Pensacola Beach Gateway Project by $1.5M and prompting a shift to infrastructure and safety improvements—after nearly 4,000 residents provided input. Rick's Blog
- ➤ Escambia County Commissioners on Friday morning approved a new formula for the Statewide Medicaid Hospital Directed Payment Program that replaces the flat 5.47% rate with calculations of 3.11% of gross inpatient revenue and 0.80% of gross outpatient revenue.
