COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The 2025 Pensacola Beach Air Show will run from July 9 to 12 and will feature the Blue Angels along with aerobatic teams and military displays on Pensacola Beach. ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A fire in Escambia County damaged a home and claimed the lives of five cats on Tuesday — an electrical issue with a vehicle sparked the blaze at the 2000 block of Coral Creek Drive in the early morning.  WEAR-TV

CRIME NEWS

  • A 23-year-old Pensacola woman, Mi’Chaela Aaliyah Thomas, was arrested yesterday for DUI negligent manslaughter—charges following the April 23 crash in Escambia County that killed an unrestrained 2-month-old infant.  WEAR-TV
  • On Monday, Pace Pharmacy owners Stephen Burklow and Monique Burklow were re-arrested on new drug and fraud charges from items seized during a May 14 search at their home on Wallace Lake Road—22-year-old Laikyn Burklow was also arrested—and all were later released on bond.  WEAR-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Tuesday morning, Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill that repealed a 2018 law restricting beach access and gave local communities more control over renourishment projects. Walton County and other coastal areas will now follow simplified erosion control processes—supporting quicker local decisions on beach management.  WUWF
  • Escambia Children’s Trust is moving forward with an interlocal agreement with Mayor D.C. Reeves to use CRA funds for a pilot childcare program aimed at filling 400 empty slots—focusing on children zero to five; the Trust board meets at 5:30 p.m. today in County Commission Chambers at 221 Palafox Place to decide next steps.
