Good morning, Pensacola. Here's your local news at a glance for Friday, the 27th of June.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On July 3, the annual Pensacola Habitat for Humanity Takeover Night will take place at Blue Wahoos Stadium where fans will enjoy baseball, giveaways and a postgame fireworks show — all to fund affordable homeownership — as discounted ticket sales support the Women Build campaign.  Local Pulse

CRIME NEWS

  • Three Pensacola men—Michael Polnitz Jr., Kaleb Bonner and Antonio Larkins—were indicted on first-degree felony murder charges for allegedly shooting 20-year-old Andrew Sanders in the head on April 24, and they now face life in prison if convicted.  Pensacola News Journal
  • A 28-year-old man—Jackie Washington—was arrested Tuesday after a high-speed chase that ended when his car hit a fence and he fled on foot, with deputies recovering 892 grams of methamphetamine, 11 grams of marijuana, and a firearm from his vehicle.  WEAR-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • For 30 years, Boogie Inc. has provided sound for the Pensacola Beach Red, White and Blues Air Show by playing music and making key announcements that keep the event safe and fun. The company sets up days in advance to cover areas near Casino Beach and air the show live to radio, TV and streaming platforms.  Rick's Blog
  • Pensacola Lighthouse now shows Hart’s Hammock, a new exhibit that tells the stories of Black families like the Harts, Wingates, and Morris who gained success after the Civil War. Curator Olaf Talbert said the exhibit has panels and a replica home — with plans to add more finds from surveys — that show how work at the lighthouse and Navy Yard helped build lasting stability.  WUWF

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Residents in Pensacola must follow a longstanding city rule that bans most fireworks—violators risk having their displays confiscated if neighbors complain—while those in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties can legally set off fireworks on Fourth of July if they adhere to noise ordinances.  Pensacola News Journal
  • The Santa Rosa Island Authority is adding free trolley and bus rides for the Pensacola Beach Air Show on July 11 and 12 to ease traffic and help passengers travel from Park East and Park West to the show center at Casino Beach — riders can board and disembark only at marked stops. Extra routes will run until midnight with a suspension for some stops after 6 p.m. to reduce gridlock after the event.  WEAR-TV

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Mak and Lou spent a sunny afternoon indoors at the Bear Levin Studer Family YMCA pool at 165 E. Intendencia St to beat the Pensacola heat and traffic. They swam in the activity and lap pools and noted the water slide was off during swim lessons—providing a cool, accessible way for local families to enjoy indoor water fun.  Local Pulse
