Good morning, Pensacola. Here's your local news at a glance for Saturday, the 5th of July.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Quint Studer said that a great workplace begins with a great community where people love to live and work. He noted that local efforts – like a Civic Leader Summit in Pensacola on Sept 23-25 – help attract and keep talent in these neighborhoods.  Pensacola News Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Vinyl Revival will perform at Bands on the Beach on July 8 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Gulfside Pavilion, and the '80s cover band—known for its rock star look and vibrant style—is expected to draw a crowd similar to last year's.  Pensacola News Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Nearly 200 youths are working in the Escambia County Summer Youth Employment Program that began in early June and will end on July 18—interns earn $13 to $15 per hour while learning skills and exploring local job opportunities. The program, which received over 1,700 applications, helps underserved young people gain experience in many county departments and sets a path to full-time positions.  Pensacola News Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Ron DeSantis vetoed a $150,000 appropriation for Santa Rosa County’s Veterans Treatment Court, a program that helps 25 veterans avoid jail and find support for PTSD and other challenges—officials now report that both veterans and community leaders may face added costs and logistical hurdles without state funding. Retired Lt. Col. Carmen Reynolds and state Rep. Alex Andrade said they are seeking alternative funding options to keep the program running.  Pensacola News Journal
  • Fourth of July crowds on Pensacola Beach led to heavy parking and traffic problems as residents struggled to find spots and faced bumper-to-bumper cars. County officials are working on plans to ease congestion—though some doubt that ideas like a pedestrian overpass are practical due to cost and ADA rules.  WEAR-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Local veteran Michael Perry, a former Army Reserve corporal who served in Iraq, said the VA counseling he received helped him cope with PTSD triggered by July 4th fireworks — he planned to step outside for the first time in 20 years to watch the display.  WEAR-TV

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Today, an East Hill mansion at 1725 E La Rua St. in Pensacola is on the market for $3.4M and offers 6,273 square feet of European-style living with a formal living room, chef’s kitchen, family room and guest house — complete with a saltwater pool, private boat dock and scenic views of Bayou Texar and Pensacola Bay.
