- ➤ Yesterday, thousands gathered at Pensacola Beach for Breakfast with the Blues to see the Blue Angels fly over in a special morning event before the airshow—Friday will feature a full dress rehearsal with demonstrations at 10:30 a.m. and the official show will take place on Saturday. WEAR-TV
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A small, single-engine plane crashed while trying an emergency landing at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday night north of Bluff Springs and Byrneville Roads—both the pilot and passenger walked away uninjured as the FAA began its investigation. WEAR-TV

- ➤ The University of West Florida will host a press conference on July 16 at 10 a.m. at the Pensacola campus to introduce Interim President Manny Diaz Jr. He will share his vision, leadership priorities, and plans for advancing academic excellence, workforce development, and regional impact—media will have a Q&A session after his remarks. - ➤ Pensacola’s curbside recycling came back this month when Mayor Reeves announced the program with AI-powered trucks that teach families proper recycling. More than 500 residents have signed up and the city now lets households add a second garbage can for $8 while it tests an AI system—its goal is to instruct, not fine. Rick's Blog
- ➤ ShotSpotter technology in Escambia County and Pensacola, in use since November 2023, is at risk of being discontinued at the end of this year after Gov. Ron DeSantis vetoed a $350,000 upgrade funding—county officials will work with Pensacola to explore new options. Escambia County Sheriff Chip Simmons said the system has been key in shooting investigations, but his department cannot cover the cost without new support. WEAR-TV
- ➤ A new Florida law lets pregnant women get handicap parking permits as expecting mothers must have a doctor's note to obtain a placard from the DMV—permits last one year and the law took effect on July 1. WEAR-TV
- ➤ Escambia County Emergency Management has set a 250-yard vessel exclusion zone along Pensacola Beach soundside to clear a path for first responder vessels during the Blue Angels practice flight today at 2 p.m.— the measure follows past air shows where severe injuries such as broken necks and propeller accidents occurred. Boaters must not anchor in the zone though they may cross it to reach their destinations. Pensacola News Journal
