  • On Saturday, the Blue Angels drew tens of thousands of spectators to Pensacola Beach—the largest turnout recorded at the event—with early arrivers watching precise aerial stunts. Organizers say the performance boosted local commerce and the team will return in November for the homecoming airshow.  WEAR-TV

  • Pensacola will welcome its first Lucky Goat Coffee location at 7175 N. Davis Highway, Suite B with a grand opening on July 19 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.—owner Sofia Lorenzini, an aerospace engineer turned entrepreneur, is creating a community space that serves craft beverages and fresh baked goods along with seasonal specials.  Pensacola News Journal

  • NFL star Devon Witherspoon held a back-to-school jamboree at Pine Forest on July 12 that gave kids supplies, games and food—helping families get ready for school. He said his return shows the value of education and community—his jersey now hangs on the school’s Wall of Fame to inspire students.  Pensacola News Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Retired Navy Capt. Royce Williams—100 years old—flew from the USS Oriskany during a 35-minute dogfight against seven Soviet MiG-15s on Nov. 18, 1952; the mission remained classified until 2002 and led to his receiving the Navy Cross in 2022. He visited Pensacola on July 11 and 12 to participate in the Red White and Blues Veterans Flight where he shared his long-hidden heroics.  Pensacola News Journal
  • Deborah Ray, director of programs at the Escambia Children's Trust, visited the JBWES Youth Enrichment Camp in July to review how funds are spent on youth programs—she met with staff and observed art projects during the on-site inspection.  Pensacola News Journal

  • Ascension Sacred Heart received approval to build a new freestanding emergency room in Pace that will have nine treatment areas, a triage station and 58 parking spaces—officials say the facility will serve about 15,000 patients a year and help ease congestion at their Pensacola campus.  Pensacola News Journal
