Good morning, Pensacola. Here's your local news at a glance for Wednesday, the 23rd of July.

CRIME NEWS

  • Escambia deputies are seeking missing endangered toddler Alaynah Shean, 2, who was last seen July 20 with 28-year-old Jade Shean possibly driving a black Toyota 4Runner with Florida tag #5971UC; anyone with information should call ECSO at 850-436-9620.  Pensacola News Journal
  • A scam text message falsely claiming to be from the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles has been sent to many Pensacola residents alleging unpaid traffic fines and threats of license suspension. The text cites law —15C-16.003— and uses urgent language that the agency said it never uses to demand payment.  Pensacola News Journal

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Pensacola was named City on the Rise by LinkedIn on July 15 as one of the top 25 fastest-growing metro areas for job growth and new talent. Mayor D.C. Reeves said the honor came from a strong housing market, high-tech manufacturing — and a laid-back lifestyle that helped the city bounce back after the pandemic.  Local Pulse

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On July 17, the House approved a defense spending bill that includes $12M to restore the Blue Angels hangar at NAS Pensacola — the measure also stops federal funds from relocating the flight team and raises military pay by 3.8%. The Senate now will review the bill as it moves toward final passage later this year.  Rick's Blog
  • During restaurant inspections for the week of July 14 through July 20, one Pensacola restaurant on Gulf Blvd was temporarily closed after inspectors found 12 violations including live flies and unsafe food storage—prompting an immediate halt in operations. Two restaurants received administrative complaints while two mobile units got high-priority issues—31 restaurants passed with no violations.  Pensacola News Journal
  • Pensacola is set to buy the old Escambia Clinic on N. Palafox for $1,275,000 using grant money from the Hollice T. Williams project if the city council approves the deal. The four-story building has sat empty and deteriorating for 12 years, and inspectors will check the property for hazards before the city plans to demolish it — a move aimed at removing a long-time eyesore.  Pensacola News Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • Volunteers are needed to drive cancer patients to treatment through the American Cancer Society’s Road to Recovery program because the current team only meets about half the ride requests. Mark Schmitt has given over 1,000 rides since 2007 and helps patients like Deborah Richards get free transportation so they can continue treatment—ensuring vital care reaches those in need.  WEAR-TV
