  • Waterfront Mission launched Threads of Hope to help homeless Gulf Coast students get school clothes by offering Waterfront Thrift gift cards for use by local districts. A $50 gift card provides clothes for one child and funds 25 meals—supporting programs in Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa, Mobile and Baldwin counties—while the campaign aims to raise $15,000.  Rick's Blog
  • At the Fricker Center last Wednesday, Black community members voiced distrust after city officials sought input on a $9.5 million grant to improve local neighborhoods — they warned that the planned updates could lead to more gentrification and displacement, noting the loss of 5,034 residents since 2000.  Rick's Blog

  • Three Pensacola family members—Devon Moore, Geanetta Powell and Katina Grimsley—face organized retail theft charges after police linked them to multiple thefts at Cordova Mall from March through early July, with Moore and Powell now held on bond while Grimsley remains free after a separate child support arrest.  WEAR-TV
  • Pensacola police are searching for Dennis Allen Jolly—71 years old with dementia and a wound on his left foot—who was last seen at Baptist Hospital ER on July 25th.  WEAR-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Manny Diaz Jr. became UWF's interim president today after leaving his state job and shared a bold plan to improve classes, job training, sports and ties with the community—focusing on working with local colleges and study opportunities abroad. He said he will lead by visiting the campus and meeting with students and staff to help more students succeed.  Local Pulse
  • Local childcare providers face a funding gap after the state's budget cut removed over $2M from the Early Learning Coalition voucher program that supports 2,500 children in Pensacola. Executive Director Bruce Watson warned the cuts could force the program to drop between 300 and 500 children if funding is not restored — a move attributed to fiscal decisions by state lawmakers.  WEAR-TV
