  • On Aug. 18, Krispy Kreme will launch its limited-edition Harry Potter: Houses of Hogwarts doughnut collection in Pensacola (each doughnut represents a Hogwarts house), and fans can taste the magic in stores for a short time. From Sept. 1 to Sept. 4, consumers can enter a contest to win a trip to Universal Studios in Hollywood or Orlando (contest rules apply).  Pensacola News Journal
  • Costco’s plan for its first Pensacola store is still under review after the proposal was revised five times over the past year. The 172,580-square-foot store on East Nine Mile Road will include a tire center + a gas station, and Escambia County will decide on the project on Aug. 20.  Pensacola News Journal

  • DOH-Escambia issued a health alert for blue-green algae toxins in Admiral Mason Park Pond near Veterans’ Memorial Park after a water sample taken August 13th showed contamination—officials warn residents and visitors to avoid the water and advise that pets and livestock use alternative water sources—steps intended to protect health.  Rick's Blog
  • Tropical Storm Erin strengthened with winds of 70 mph and became a hurricane on Aug. 15; forecasters say it will intensify to a Category 4 storm with 130-mph winds within three days—dangerous surf and rip currents are expected along the coast.  Pensacola News Journal

  • Pensacola 12-year-old Tommy 'Gator' Boggs took part in the Air Force's Aviator for a Day program at Naval Air Station Pensacola on August 15—Staff Sgt. Zaquantai Sears and Maj. Jordan Allen guided his tour of an Air Force T-6 Texan II and outfitted him with flight gear.  Pensacola News Journal
  • The SRIA board postponed its vote on a request by Dustin and Mandy Vaughn to install an iconic sailfish sign as art outside their store on Via de Luna Dr.—Board members said they needed more details on the sign’s design and build. The Vaughns will present updated plans at the Aug. 27th meeting to move the project forward.  Pensacola News Journal
