Pensacola Beach lifeguards ended their seasonal coverage on Perdido Key after more than 9,000 beach interactions and four water rescues this summer.
Fire-rescue crews with jet skis remain on call and lifeguard towers will be staffed through the end of October (visitors are advised to stay alert).
The Port of Pensacola will dock four massive ships this week after saying goodbye to the 240-ft TX-10,000 catamaran on Monday morning.

A new First Watch will open on Aug.

Pensacola’s calendar is busy this week with events including the Bartender Championship at O'Riley’s Irish Pub on Sunday (Aug.
23), Gallery Night downtown on Friday, and Vince Gill honoring his 50-year career at Saenger Theatre on Saturday. Local venues offer a range of music and interactive shows for all adults.

An environmentalist raised concerns during a city council meeting about missing air quality monitors and rising dust at the old Baptist Hospital demolition on Aug.
7. City officials said the DEP visited the site and increased water usage to control the dust.

Pensacola native Devon Witherspoon has reportedly signed a four-year, $132 million contract extension with the Seahawks that makes him the highest-paid cornerback in NFL history + his new deal includes over $101 million in guaranteed money.
The extension will begin in 2028 following his rookie contract.
Tate High School won a close kickoff classic on Aug.
15 when senior kicker Ethan Priest hit a last-second 21-yard field goal to edge Pine Forest 17-14 (special teams mishaps boosted the win) with running back Ethan Pittman also contributing over 100 yards.
Escambia High's defense held Navarre scoreless in a 10-0 preseason win on Aug.
15 at Emmitt Smith Field, as penalties limited the offense and a JV blocked punt led to a touchdown; the team will prepare further before opening against Pine Forest on Aug. 28.
