- ➤ Escambia County officials cut the ribbon on Thursday morning at the new 8,000-square-foot Brownsville Library at 3300 W DeSoto Street, which now houses a public library, café, and multi-use space for community programs. Escambia County also received $350,000 in RESTORE Act funding to design a business incubator near the library—an effort to boost local business. WEAR-TV

- ➤ A New York—style pizza franchise called Johnny Brusco’s will open soon at 1491 W. Nine Mile Road, offering brick-oven thin-crust pizzas and Italian meals to Pensacola residents. The new shop, owned by franchisee Stephen Long, joins nearby eateries such as Jeremiah’s Italian Ice and Lou’s Pizza. Pensacola News Journal

- ➤ A 22-year-old Pensacola man broke into a 79-year-old woman's trailer early this month and raped her after she answered his request for water and phone use—he was arrested on Aug. 8 on charges of sexual assault and burglary with assault—and is set to appear in court on Aug. 29. WEAR-TV
- ➤ Tierra Binion's sister Diamond Jordan said she applauded the judge's decision to deny a Stand Your Ground dismissal for Christian Ketchup, who shot Binion 10 times at Mugs & Jugs in 2023 and now faces a second-degree murder trial with a potential life sentence. Pensacola News Journal

- ➤ University of West Florida has begun its presidential search process by hosting a public forum to gather community input on qualities needed in the next president, and the meeting will take place on August 27 from 11:00 a.m.—12:00 p.m. at the UWF Usha Kundu MD College of Health where input will help set the candidate criteria. - ➤ More than 400 children are on a waitlist for Escambia County’s School Readiness Program due to a nationwide shortage of childcare professionals—low wages, high turnover, and rising demand have left the program understaffed.
