- ➤ The Brownsville Library opened on Aug 21 at 3300 W. DeSoto St—an 8,000-square-foot space with over 5,000 books, a cafe, and areas for senior and children programs that now honors local Black leaders with window decals and laminated bookmarks. The new library, built in a former meeting space once used by the Klan, is part of a county effort to revitalize Brownsville. Pensacola News Journal

- ➤ Mugshots Grill & Bar closed its Pace location and will soon move back to its original space at 4781 Bayou Blvd in the Cordova Mall area of Pensacola. The restaurant, known for its famous burger & lively sports vibe, announced the move on social media. Pensacola News Journal
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Florida Highway Patrol arrested 200 people for federal immigration violations in the Panhandle during a four-day operation that began on August 22—officials said the number may rise as 45 state and 20 federal officers work across several counties. Pensacola News Journal
- ➤ Pensacola man Joshua Dean Hardy, 26, was indicted Aug 22 by a federal grand jury for possessing two silencers without serial numbers and a gun with an obliterated serial number under the National Firearms Act (he will be arraigned Aug 28 and could face up to 10 years in prison if convicted). Pensacola News Journal
- ➤ A Pensacola babysitter, 23-year-old Damond Bailey, was arrested in Milton on two counts of aggravated child abuse after allegedly inflicting severe injuries on two 4-year-olds with special needs—including a bleeding eye, torn lip, and broken blood vessels—on Aug. 22nd, and he now remains in jail on a $5,000 bond. - ➤ Pensacola State College and UWF plan a Clean Lab Technology program—which may attract semiconductor and pharmaceutical companies—to create jobs that pay over $100,000 a year. The schools are seeking job growth grants and will renovate a facility to start the program if funding is secured next year. Pensacola News Journal
- ➤ University of West Florida archaeologists have released a new children's book titled Luna the Cat that is based on real archaeological findings from the 1559 Luna shipwreck in Pensacola Bay—designed for kids ages 8-12 with accompanying lesson plans for teachers.
