  • Fort Barrancas opened to the public aboard NAS Pensacola on Saturday — giving locals a chance to explore the historic site.  Pensacola News Journal
  • Community members gathered at Goldstrong Fest Saturday as Rally Gulf Coast hosted an event in Pensacola to raise awareness for childhood cancer and offer support to survivors and families. The event set the stage for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in September — a candlelight vigil on Sept 8 at 6:30 outside Studer Family Children's Hospital is planned.  WEAR-TV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Asia Buffet held its soft opening at 4238 W. Fairfield on Aug. 17, 2025—customers enjoyed an all-you-can-eat buffet featuring Bean Sauce Noodles and Red Curry Chicken.  Pensacola News Journal
  • Culver’s was approved for construction at Ransley Station near Interstate 10 in northwest Pensacola—franchisee Brandon Cherry said it will join Chipotle and First Watch. The planned 4,985-square-foot restaurant will have 124 seats and 65 parking spaces at 8880 Boesch Lane, but its permits are still pending.  Pensacola News Journal

CRIME NEWS

  • Two suspects were arrested on Friday on Deer Lake Road in Escambia County on drug and firearm charges—36-year-old Natoshia Ramer was charged with fentanyl trafficking after deputies found 50 grams of liquid fentanyl and 52-year-old convicted felon William Lindsey Brown was charged with firearm and ammunition possession after a loaded .32 caliber pistol and two boxes of ammunition were discovered—and both are held at Escambia County Jail on no bond.  WEAR-TV

SPORTS NEWS

  • In the Pensacola-area high school football opener, Pensacola Catholic under new head coach Bobby Clayton beat Navarre 42-27 on a neutral field while Milton won 20-19 in overtime against Crestview after an 0-10 season last year. Mary G. Montgomery defeated Pace 34-21 after a turnover—other local teams such as Tate and Pine Forest posted wins as new coaching debuts and weather delays set up more matchups on Aug. 29.  Pensacola News Journal
