- ➤ Two Pensacola men, Ronald Dale White, 39, and Darius Rafael Whisler, 33, were indicted by a federal grand jury this week on methamphetamine distribution charges—including conspiracy to distribute, possession with intent to distribute over 50 grams, and a firearm charge for White—and they will face up to life imprisonment if convicted. - ➤ A federal grand jury indicted Justin J. Wright for extortion linked to a June 1st fire bombing that Bruce Childers said nearly targeted his wife—County Clerk Pam Childers—and the FBI is now seeking the ringleader. Rick's Blog
- ➤ Escambia County Sheriff Chip Simmons said his team seized over 8 kilos of fentanyl this past year using a $75,000 grant from the S.A.F.E. program—doubling his narcotics unit to help fight a surge in overdoses. WEAR-TV

- ➤ The University of West Florida has received a $32,515,120 grant from Triumph Gulf Coast to boost cybersecurity research by expanding its Institute for Analytics and Industry Advancement, Center for Cybersecurity and creating a new Center for Computational Intelligence—pending final contract negotiations, the funds will also support facility upgrades at the university. - ➤ A Powerball ticket sold at Greers Perdido Bay Market in Pensacola won $1 million in the Labor Day drawing on Sept. 1 when the numbers were 8-23-25-40-53 with PowerBall 5 and PowerPlay 3.
