COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Warrington Emergency Aid Center, one of Pensacola’s oldest food pantries, has seen a 70% increase in recipients and now serves groceries to at least 100 households each month. Volunteers donated 228 new pairs of shoes to nearby elementary schools on Tuesday to help local families cope with rising rents and food prices—an effort that shows the deep support of the community.  WEAR-TV
  • The Pensacola Interstate Fair will run from Oct. 16 through Oct. 26 at 6655 Mobile Highway and will offer discounted admission, unlimited ride wristbands, free kids' hours, and special events. The fair will feature live music from artists like Tyler Farr, Sawyer Brown, Petra, and Rodney Atkins as well as community exhibits including the Big Red Barn—an interactive display for learning about agriculture.  Pensacola News Journal

  • Doc's Hop Shop, a family-run downtown brewery known for craft beers like Gulf Coast Blonde and Shark Bite IPA, will permanently close at 500 E. Heinberg St. at the end of September as its founder Doc retires—customers can enjoy discounted pints while supplies last.  Pensacola News Journal
  • Pensacola will host EntreCon 2025 from November 12 to 13 downtown where business owners and entrepreneurs gather for networking and learning.   • The National Naval Aviation Museum will open its Return with Honor exhibit on Sept. 19 at the Blue Angels Atrium to honor Vietnam War POWs with stories of survival and sacrifice.   • The Pensacola Beach Chamber of Commerce will host the Taste of the Beach Festival from October 9 to 11, 2025—featuring a Coastal Sunset Cruise on October 9, a VIP Trolley Dinner Tour with a new Party Dinner Trolley on October 10, and a free family event with live music at Casino Beach on October 11.   • The UWF Center for Cybersecurity has received a $2 million grant — part of the Cyber Florida: FirstLine initiative — to expand its free training program for government personnel in Florida. From September through June, the center will launch 41 new online courses that integrate AI and emerging technologies to boost defenses against cyber threats.  University of West Florida

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A Florida appeals court ruled Florida’s open carry ban unconstitutional after former Escambia County commission candidate Stan McDaniels challenged the law following his 2022 arrest for openly carrying a handgun during a downtown Pensacola campaign event. The three-judge panel cited the Second Amendment in its unanimous ruling for North Florida—while McDaniels remains in county jail for a separate contempt of court charge.  Pensacola News Journal
  • Pensacola Mayor D.C. Reeves said the Chappie James Memorial Plaza project remains stalled because the foundation must show proof of funding and detailed plans before any further negotiations—he rejected taking on county liability for non-compliant funds and noted that Veterans Memorial Park could be a backup if issues persist.  Rick's Blog
