BUSINESS NEWS

  • Developers submitted plans for a new Dutch Bros Coffee store at 6810 N. Davis Highway next to Ferry Pass Pentecostal Church that would replace the old Eyeglass World building with a 986-square-foot shop and an 18-space parking lot. If Escambia County approves the proposal, the project will add drive-through lanes that lead to Creighton Road and Sewell Street—improving access for drivers.  Pensacola News Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Seven Days Out gives Pensacola readers a guide to fall events in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties—offering zipline tours, pumpkin patches, live concerts, and food festivals from today through Sunday.   • On Sept. 29, 2025, artists Eniko Ujj and Daniela de Castro Sucre painted a night sky mural on the ceiling of the Upper Room at the First United Methodist Church’s Consulate building in downtown Pensacola—showing stars and planets vividly—and church officials—who oversaw the project—commended the work.  Pensacola News Journal
  • Pensacola Beach Chamber of Commerce will host the Taste of the Beach Festival from Oct. 9 to Oct. 11 featuring a Coastal Sunset Cruise with Chef Julio on Oct. 9, VIP Trolley Dinners on Oct. 10, and a free festival at Casino Beach on Oct. 11 that offers small plates from 15 local restaurants and family activities.   • The Pensacola News Journal partnered with high schools in Escambia and Santa Rosa to name the Student of the Week for Sept. 29-Oct. 3—Pine Forest High School’s Ka’javian Pettway won with 32.84% of the vote over runner-up Bailey Parden.   • Thirty years ago, Hurricane Opal hit near Pensacola and brought a catastrophic storm surge that killed 9 people and caused $3 billion in damage—setting the benchmark for hurricanes until Michael struck in 2018.  FOX 10

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Escambia County wrote off nearly $18M in unpaid EMS bills mostly owed by uninsured patients who often used 911 for non-emergencies. County officials are partnering with Pensacola hospitals to identify frequent flyers and reduce non-urgent ambulance use—freeing emergency resources for true emergencies.  Pensacola News Journal

  • Tyler, a Pensacola native and Tate High School graduate, opened True REST Float Spa on Nine Mile Road to help busy parents relieve stress by floating in a 30% salt solution that eases tension and pain—he also offers free sessions for veterans, first responders, and nurses on the 11th of every month.   • Week 7 of high school football in the Pensacola area produced standout performances as West Florida's Xavier Finley accounted for over 250 total yards and two touchdowns in a win over Gulf Breeze, while Booker T.
