- ➤ The old Century High School gym in Century will be transformed with a $10M Community Development Block Grant into a multi-use storm shelter and community center—adding an industrial kitchen, showers and space for youth sports. - ➤ United Way of West Florida held its 31st Day of Caring on Friday with more than 650 volunteers working on projects at schools and local nonprofits in Pensacola. The projects included updating an aquatic habitat, helping at Catholic Charities on North 6th Avenue, and hosting a fall festival for children (contributing nearly 3,000 volunteer hours and an impact value over $93,000). - ➤ A local food truck named 3D Eats gives free meals like hot dogs and grilled cheese in different Pensacola areas during the government shutdown — owner Sean Desmet said the truck will keep serving those in need according to a weekly schedule. WEAR-TV

- ➤ 7 Brew Coffee has submitted plans to build a 510-square-foot drive-through shop at Cherokee Trail and Mobile Highway in West Pensacola, aiming to serve residents across from Walmart Supercenter. If approved by the county’s Development Review Committee, the store will be built on a 0.67-acre lot at 4615 Mobile Highway—featuring two drive-through lanes and a dozen parking spaces. - ➤ Tipsy Scoop, Florida’s first alcohol-infused ice cream barlour by local owners Tony Linberg and Piyaporn 'Jen' Lindberg, will open its downtown Pensacola shop at 194 N. Palafox St. on Nov 15 at 11 a.m. and will offer a menu with flavors like mango margarita sorbet, dark chocolate whiskey salted caramel, and an exclusive Blue Chair Bay Spiked Key Lime Pie ice cream (only serving customers 21 and older) plus $1 scoops for the first 25 people (a promotion to spark excitement). - ➤ Escambia County has approved $1.4 million in Local Option Sales Tax funds to install new playground equipment and splash pads at seven parks—including Perdido Kids Park—with installations beginning in January and splash pads ready by Spring Break. - ➤ Officials said the government shutdown will pause SNAP benefits starting November 1 and local pantries are already preparing for more families to seek help since benefits issued in October remain active. Feeding the Gulf Coast director Kyle Schoolar said his organization has provided 65,000 meals—22,000 above the usual number—since the shutdown began. WEAR-TV
- ➤ A Pace woman with pancreatic cancer was mistakenly declared dead in May, which stopped her survivor benefits and terminated her health insurance. - ➤ Downtown Pensacola business owners told the City Council that the Reimagine Palafox Street project may force them out of business if the street is closed for months—Mayor D.C. Reeves plans to ask for a $10.3 million budget approval and a contractor selection, with work set to begin in January and finish by July 3. - ➤ WEAR Cares' Halloween Blood Drive kicked off Friday morning at Blue Wahoos Stadium, East Nine Mile Donor Center and 9th Ave Donor Center in Pensacola. The drive registered 189 donors and collected 196 pints of blood + the donation could save up to 588 lives. WEAR-TV
- ➤ Pet owners can visit the free drive-through rabies vaccine clinic on Nov. 1 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Escambia County Central Office Complex—where pets will receive rabies vaccinations and free microchips to help reunite lost animals with their families, offered in partnership with Pensacola Humane Society and Davis Animal Hospital. - ➤ The West Florida Jaguars girls team won its fourth straight District 1-2A title at the Oct. 22 meet at Frank Brown Park Aquatic Center while the boys finished second, marking the highest finish in the Pensacola area. The teams will compete in upcoming regional championships—Oct. 28 in Jacksonville and Oct. 29 in Panama City Beach (details pending). Pensacola News Journal
- ➤ Pensacola Catholic won 24—13 over South Walton at Gorecki-LeBeau Stadium after coming from behind with 14 unanswered third-quarter points and a key interception return by linebacker Kaleb Johnson that put them ahead by 11 points.
