GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Developer George Hawthorne proposed to renovate the Grand Hotel into a 210-room upscale establishment but city officials rejected his financing proposal, leaving the project uncertain. Gov. DeSantis’ plan to use $40M in tax dollars to counter ballot measures while overhauling Pensacola State College met strong backlash from business leaders amid other local issues from last week.  Rick's Blog
  • About 1,000 staff from Naval Station Guantanamo were flown to NAS Pensacola late Saturday night because Hurricane Melissa Intensified prompted a non-mission essential movement and over 350 pets arrived for quarantine. Congressman Jimmy Patronis said the deployment might extend if the storm worsens—while the USO of Northwest Florida is collecting pet food donations today and on October 28 at American Legion Post #240.  WEAR-TV
