- ➤ Costello's Butcher Shop teamed with AmVets Post 292 and Veterans for a Purpose to feed more than 800 evacuees from NAS Guantanamo Bay who were relocated to NAS Pensacola due to Hurricane Melissa—volunteers delivered meals, snacks, and non-perishable items with plans to serve 120 pounds of barbecue today. The effort supports families, contractors, civilian employees, and pets staying at Pensacola’s Navy Lodge and Navy Inn. Pensacola News Journal

- ➤ As SNAP benefits are not being issued today due to a government shutdown, Escambia and Santa Rosa public schools are expanding backpack programs to give students and families shelf-stable food. Escambia County will add eligible students to its program that already serves about 500 students each weekend—Santa Rosa schools are working with counselors and local groups to offer extra food support during holidays and breaks. - ➤ The Pensacola Homecoming Air Show scheduled for November 14 and 15 is canceled as the U.S. Navy announced the Blue Angels will not perform for the rest of the season due to the ongoing government shutdown — NAS Pensacola has halted public air shows since Oct. 1. Pensacola News Journal
- ➤ Pensacola Mayor D.C. Reeves presented a $10.3 million plan on Oct. 30th to revamp Palafox Street, saying that if approved by the City Council, the project will close the street from Jan. 5th to May 24th to add wider sidewalks, better drainage, and other improvements. Business owners are divided over the plan as some support its long-term benefits while others worry about immediate economic impacts and loss of parking during construction — council votes are expected soon. - ➤ Attorney Chris Hand will speak at CivicCon on Nov. 4 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at 2 E. Wright St. in downtown Pensacola to share practical ways for people to work with government amid political division. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Florida health officials reported a new Vibrio vulnificus case from Lee County on Oct. 30 that brings the yearly total to 30 cases and five deaths in 2025. The bacteria, which can cause rapid tissue damage when contracted through raw shellfish or open wounds in brackish water, has also affected a local resident who fell ill after swimming at Pensacola Beach on July 27.
