  • Milton Police Chief Jennifer Frank hosted her first women's self-defense course on Saturday to show local women how to protect themselves—she noted the training boosted their confidence and awareness in handling risky situations.  WEAR-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Foo Foo Fest is running through Nov 10—local restaurants like Odd Colony Brewing Company, O’Riley’s Irish Pub, Graffiti Pizza, Five Sisters Blues Cafe, and Reservoir are offering fun, creative food and drink specials inspired by the festival. Visitors can enjoy unique dishes such as edible glitter cocktails and specialty meals that bring art to their plates.  Pensacola News Journal

  • Escambia Public Schools held their annual chili cook-off at Fountain Park on Saturday to raise funds for the Tools for Teachers program that helps teachers buy essential supplies. Visitors enjoyed musical performances from Ransom Middle — Bailey Middle Schools.  WEAR-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The government shutdown has doubled food demand at Ministry Village at Olive as state workers, veterans and families wait in long lines for assistance. The nonprofit will host a Veterans Day food drive on Nov. 11 at 1716 E Olive Rd — officials say the drive is meant to aid those most affected by halted paychecks and rising costs.  Pensacola News Journal

  • Booker T. Washington senior Chamiah Francis—the top high school girl's basketball player in Pensacola—committed to Florida State on Friday night. The four-star recruit, ranked No. 3 in Florida for the class of 2026, averaged 14.8 points and 10.4 rebounds last season.  Pensacola News Journal
