- ➤ Marine Gunnery Sgt. David Post, who lost his foot in Afghanistan, was honored on November 22 at a Homes for Our Troops event at the Wallace Lake K-8 School in Pace—an organization that builds adapted, mortgage-free homes for injured veterans. He will move into his new home designed with over 40 specialty features—his future home is set to be ready by spring. Pensacola News Journal
- ➤ Grand Giving teamed up with SWAT Charity Events, Classic City Catering and Fearless Community to help seniors caring for grandchildren enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving meal. Volunteers prepared meals on November 24 at Classic City Catering’s new space, are packing boxes today, and will deliver them on November 26 with each box feeding four and including food and health items. - ➤ Opening Doors Northwest Florida and Escambia County are asking volunteers to join the annual Point-in-Time Count from Jan. 27 to Jan. 31, 2026 to count people facing homelessness in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties—training sessions will be held on Dec. 8 and Dec. 10 at Escambia County Public Safety or on Jan. 13 and Jan. 15 at Opening Doors Northwest Florida, and volunteers can also donate care bag items at various community centers. - ➤ National Weather Service experts say a strong storm is set to bring severe thunderstorms and travel delays to the Florida Panhandle today and through Thanksgiving week. Overnight storms began Monday into today and a second round is expected Tuesday evening—posing risks of damaging winds, hail and tornadoes while Pensacola and nearby areas will enjoy sunny skies with cooler temperatures.
