  • A water main break near the 2900-block of N Blue Angel Parkway left over 100 residents without water on Christmas Eve and utilities advised boiling water until tests are complete (which may take 48 hours).  WEAR-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Scheduled for Jan. 19 at 11 a.m., the 2026 MLK Day Parade — starting at Spring and Garden streets in downtown Pensacola and traveling along Palafox — features grand marshal Lumon May on a two-car float linking 2026 and 2025 honorees while embracing the theme ‘With Unity, We Won't Turn Back’.  Pensacola News Journal

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Major grocery chains including Aldi, Publix, Sprouts, and Walmart will open new Florida stores in early 2026. The plans include converting former locations and adding enhanced features (including a project in Pensacola) to serve local residents.  Pensacola News Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Authors of And Tango Makes Three have asked a federal appeals court to overturn the Escambia County School Board's decision to remove the book from school libraries, arguing that the removal amounts to viewpoint discrimination and undermines the book's inclusive message. The school board must file its brief by Feb. 17.  Pensacola News Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Downtown Pensacola is set for the New Palafox construction starting Jan. 5 at 6 a.m., with all outdoor furniture removed by Jan. 2 & all cars cleared by Jan. 4 to allow work to begin. The city plans to finish the corridor by November.  WEAR-TV
