COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Wonders of the Word Christian ministries hosted a block party today at the Mayfair Community Center on South Madison Drive to build community inclusion with fun, food, and fellowship. Pastor Vincent Dickens said more than 100 residents, mostly children, attended the event which also supports food drive efforts.  WEAR-TV
  • Volunteers from Northwest Florida cleaned up Milton Veterans Memorial Plaza on Saturday and raised funds to help curb veteran suicides. The group also held silkie runs to support their efforts and draw attention to the issue.  WEAR-TV

CRIME NEWS

  • A fire broke out in a vacant house on North W Street Sunday morning around 9 a.m. with no injuries reported—fire officials launched an arson investigation after learning that squatters may have been inside.  WEAR-TV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Florida is the state where over 41% of US hurricanes have made landfall since 1851, with deadly and costly storms like the 1919 Keys hurricane, the 1926 Miami storm, and Hurricane Ian in 2022 marking its history—officials now prepare for the 2025 season. Residents and emergency crews are reviewing plans to respond if another severe storm brings heavy winds and high water this season.  Pensacola News Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Pensacola shared the 2024 Resident Satisfaction Survey on its Facebook page and found that 70% of residents believe the city is going in the right direction—up from 67% last year. City leaders will use these results, which also show strong support for new parking permits, a sailing program, and improved sanitation and public works, to guide future improvements.  FOX 10
  • Local citizens in Pensacola used chalk art at the Escambia County courthouse to protest state and federal government actions—messages included stop project 2025 and trans lives matter—and hope their art will prompt local lawmakers to address their concerns.  WEAR-TV

  • Cafe Bistro—located at 39 Via De Luna Drive—has reopened on Pensacola Beach after a two‑month makeover that expanded its menu to include breakfast, lunch and dinner. Executive Chef Dan Goodwin crafted a range of fresh dishes aimed at offering a new dining experience for locals and visitors.  Pensacola News Journal

  • The Pensacola Architectural Review Board denied a demolition permit for a 133-year-old Second Empire-style home at 520 N. Sixth Ave. on Thursday so the property is back on the market with aDoor Properties ready to split the lot for new builds if a buyer appears — without a buyer the unique home may still be demolished.  Pensacola News Journal
