  • Pensacola Beach now has 40 new rescue tubes installed by the Gulf Breeze Rotary Club to boost safety for swimmers—911 callers will get help quickly when they refer to the Avenida 14 sign.  WEAR-TV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Hour Deli opened at 11 Palafox Place in downtown Pensacola after replacing The Nest, offering specialty sandwiches, craft coffee and tea and market goods for both dine-in and online orders—its official grand opening is planned for April 18 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.  Pensacola News Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State Rep. Alex Andrade held a heated committee meeting on April 9 and later released a podcast where he said that $10M from a Centene settlement was wrongly sent to the Hope Florida Foundation instead of returned to state coffers. He described a video of AHCA officials defending the transfer as looking 'like a hostage video'—raising concerns about the proper use of funds.  Rick's Blog
  • Pensacola lawmaker Alex Andrade began a probe after reports showed that a $10M settlement to the Hope Florida Foundation was used to fund groups opposing a recreational pot amendment—actions that may have breached state law requiring settlement funds to go back to general revenue.
