- ➤ The Junior League of Pensacola gave out 30,000 diapers at Fred Levin Way Fest to help families who do not have enough supplies—people at the event also learned how they can support the group through its twice-yearly diaper drives—making a big difference in our community. WEAR-TV
- ➤ Crowds gathered at Five Flags Speedway today for the third annual cops, cars, and crawfish event that featured a police cookout and local car show. The sheriff’s office hosted the free fundraiser—proceeds benefited community programs such as the Blazer Academy and movie nights. WEAR-TV
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A 45 year old male bicyclist was critically injured in a crash Saturday afternoon in Cottage Hill when he collided with a Chevrolet 1500 pickup truck that pulled out from a private residence—he was airlifted by Air Care helicopter to Sacred Heart Hospital and the Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Pensacola will soon get a new Chipotle at the northwest corner of Denver Avenue and West Michigan Avenue in Bellview after Escambia County’s Development Review Committee approved updated plans on April 9—this 2,350-square-foot restaurant with a drive-thru lane and 32 parking spots will open next to an existing Hungry Howie’s and become the county’s third location. - ➤ Pensacola is set to see new dining and shopping options as construction begins for a Cook Out at University Town Center and a new Waffle House at 6034 W. Nine Mile Road, while a Wawa will open at 8530 N. Davis Highway when construction finishes. County officials approved plans for Nine Mile Retail Center at 640 E. Nine Mile Road and Nine Mile Plaza at 1310 W. Nine Mile Road—projects that will expand local commercial growth in the area. Pensacola News Journal

- ➤ The first ever Pensacola Brick Convention will take place at the Pensacola Interstate Fairgrounds on Sept. 13 and 14—featuring professional Lego artists, themed display zones, and a hands-on Construction Zone for fans. Tickets cost $14 and are expected to sell out soon as Lego enthusiasts gather to explore new and rare sets. Pensacola News Journal

- ➤ The Pensacola Police Department welcomed its newest member, K9 Jett, a 16 month old Chesapeake Bay Retriever trained in explosives detection and imported from Hungary for Pensacola International Airport. Jett completed an intensive 8 week program with Officer Tavis Herron and will help keep the airport safe — the fourth explosives detection dog assigned there since 2002. WEAR-TV

- ➤ An affordable housing project was under construction in downtown Pensacola at 113 N. Spring St. and 2300 W. Jackson St. on April 3 — local companies including Johnson Electric, Builders FirstSource and ParsCo worked on the project. Pensacola News Journal
