- ➤ On the eve of the 15th anniversary of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, EPA regional head Kevin McOmber and other officials visited the Pensacola Bay Living Shoreline Project near NAS Pensacola to address erosion and habitat loss. The restoration effort, funded with RESTORE Act dollars, Department of Defense contributions, state funds and National Fish and Wildlife Federation support, will rebuild White Island and two nearby sites by adding sand, reef breakwaters, and 45 acres of marsh habitat — a step aimed at improving local water quality and supporting coastal wildlife.
