ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Forecasters warn that hurricane season, which begins June 1, may ramp up quickly so Pensacola residents need to update their emergency kits, review evacuation plans, and take stock of personal property. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Pensacola Beach resident Steve Luppert said he worries that code violations and environmental issues are being ignored along the sound-side shoreline—he noted that county and Santa Rosa Island Authority officials are enforcing rules selectively after a tour of his neighborhood on Feb. 6.  Pensacola News Journal
  • At the Santa Rosa County Board meeting today, commissioners will review a request from East Milton Holdings LLC—whose details remain unverified—for 8,000 gallons per day of sewage capacity to support a planned medical facility on State Road 87 north of Interstate 10. County Commission Chairman Kerry Smith supports the proposal as it may improve emergency vehicle access while county engineers work to boost wastewater treatment capacity.  Pensacola News Journal
