- ➤ Water Pig BBQ at Pensacola Beach closed Saturday after severe wind conditions during a tornado warning blew its primary smoker 200 feet, and cleanup continues as the restaurant plans to reopen today using its indoor smoker—authorities await the National Weather Service survey of damage. WEAR-TV

- ➤ Brown Barge Middle School will upgrade all 25 STREAM classrooms with new trapezoid desks and black chairs funded by a $30K Box Tops for Education award and $170K from Escambia County Public Schools. The modern furniture will be delivered on May 27—old desks will be removed and floors prepared for the upcoming school year. Pensacola News Journal
- ➤ Brown Barge Middle School raised enough points through the Box Tops for Education program to secure a $30,000 check for new classroom furniture. The school will soon use the funds to replace old and mismatched pieces. Pensacola News Journal
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Pensacola will relaunch curbside recycling in the coming weeks through a new partnership with The Recycling Partnership—a group that builds better recycling programs to cut contamination. Mayor D.C. Reeves said the updated program will include public education, upgraded equipment and an opt-in system so households can choose to pay a little extra for improved service. - ➤ Pace High School’s baseball team lost to Buchholz in the Region 1-6A final on May 10—they battled through extra innings but fell short to end a 25-6 season that included winning the Florida League Invitational and District 1-6A title.
