  • Taxie Lambert—founder of Pensacola nonprofit 4EVR Dez—hosted a pop-up event at Dixon School of the Arts on May 7 where high and middle school students received formal gowns for their dances.  Pensacola News Journal
  • More than 100 high school seniors gathered at the University of West Florida on May 15 to be honored for pledging to join the U.S. military after graduation. Rear Admiral Jeffrey Czerewko and Florida First Lady Casey DeSantis recognized their dedication during the ceremony—an event that celebrated their service commitment.  Pensacola News Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Pensacola Catholic High School held its 84th commencement on May 17 at Olive Baptist Church — graduates celebrated with family and friends as school leaders and Bishop William Wack marked the milestone.  Pensacola News Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On May 15, the Escambia County Board approved a new firefighter contract that gives a $3 raise and adds $1.7 million to the budget while also voting on a $34 million plan to build, replace, and upgrade five fire stations. The plan covers adding two new stations, replacing two stations, and upgrading one for 24/7 staffing—using funds from the local sales tax fund—and details on tax increases are still pending.  Pensacola News Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Pace sophomore Hannah DeMarcus earned the PNJ Athlete of the Week award after striking out 32 batters in two district tournament games — she pitched a no-hitter with 18 strikeouts against Crestview and threw 14 strikeouts in a win over Navarre.  Pensacola News Journal
