- ➤ The annual Gumbo Ya Ya Festival—held at Seville Quarter—brought crowds to enjoy a gumbo contest where amateur and professional teams competed for best flavor based on taste, smell, color and consistency. - ➤ At Pensacola Beach on Thursday at 7 p.m., fisherman Andrew Smith rescued a teenage girl caught in a rip current by using his fishing drone to drop a flotation device—first responders arrived minutes later and she received a clean bill of health. WEAR-TV

- ➤ Pensacola residents have a busy Memorial Weekend lined up with live music, community gatherings and cultural events across Escambia and Santa Rosa counties — the guide starts today at The Handlebar with Peeling Flesh and continues with concerts, family events and a Memorial Day Ceremony at Veterans Memorial Park featuring national acts like Keith Urban along with local favorites. - ➤ Construction has begun on the Pensacola Bay Living Shoreline Project—crews will soon begin dredging at Robinson Island to remove sand that will renourish the southern shore of NAS Pensacola at Sherman Inlet and Lake Frederic. The work is expected to continue for several months. FOX 10

- ➤ On Sunday, Escambia County firefighters conducted a planned training exercise at HCA Florida West Hospital's campus in Pensacola to practice fighting parking garage fires (the drill ran from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.). - ➤ Sergeant Dale Berrian of the Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office died Friday from a cardiac incident and officials have not released further details. WEAR-TV
- ➤ The Escambia Children’s Trust and the County Commission have clashed over a $1.1 million dispute about using tax increment funds for community redevelopment and children’s services. The county demands full payment for past years while the Trust is set to meet on July 10 to work on a plan for three years of summer youth programs — a move that could resolve the funding fight.
